Some time ago I spontaneously started planning something that still fascinates (and benefits) me: to plan in advance what and when to study or, to be more precise, what books to read or listen to in which months. You may also be interested to know that I've already planned this monthly schedule until September 2030.
Every time I tell this to others, I never fail to surprise them because they don't seem to be used to planning in advance for what they consider a long span of time. They are even more surprised when I tell them that I always succeed in following my schedule and often even accomplish it earlier than planned.
Unlike what many people think, I'm not enslaving myself. On the contrary, by planning in advance what and when to study, I'm actually liberating myself as I don't have to waste time reading or listening to books arbitrarily.
In case you want to know what exactly I've learned to do in order to plan in advance, here it is in a nutshell: I divide the current month into weeks and the current week into days. At the same time, I remain very flexible and adjust the monthly, weekly, and daily parts of this schedule quite spontaneously.
Without this three-tiered schedule, I would be able to read or listen to far fewer books. And without my monthly, weekly, and daily spontaneous adjustments, this schedule would be unsustainable.
This "planning spontaneity in advance" is what I've learned from my own experience. True spontaneity requires prior planning (and preparation). Now I also realize that true spontaneity is required for true freedom.
